Flying from San Juan: the hubs that work

There is no nonstop service from SJU to Morocco, and none from anywhere in the Americas to Marrakech. The smoothest plan is a domestic flight to Miami or New York, then Royal Air Maroc’s nonstop to Casablanca: about 8 hours from Miami and about 7 hours from JFK. Washington Dulles also has a nonstop (about 7.5 hours). Prefer Europe? Connect through Madrid, Lisbon or Paris and fly straight into Marrakech.

Door to door, allow roughly 14 to 18 hours depending on your layover. If you buy separate tickets, leave a generous buffer between flights. We compare routes in detail in our guide on how to get to Morocco.

Casablanca or Marrakech?

If you land in Casablanca, start a tour right there and finish in Marrakech, so you never backtrack. If you come through Europe, Marrakech is the natural starting point for the Atlas and the Sahara.

Entry: what your US passport covers

As US citizens, Puerto Ricans can visit Morocco without a visa for up to 90 days. You need a valid US passport; a REAL ID driver’s license is not enough for international travel. Travel companions with another nationality may face different rules, and those rules can change, so check our Morocco visa guide by nationality and always confirm at acces-maroc.ma or with the nearest Moroccan consulate.

Paying for your tour

Our prices are set in euros; the dollar amounts you see are approximate. As of 18 October 2026, €1 is about $1.12, so our 10-day group tour at US$ 956 per person comes to roughly $955. You pay a deposit through PayPal, which works normally in Puerto Rico, using your account or a debit or credit card, and the balance on arrival. Ask your bank whether it adds a foreign transaction fee. For cash, ATMs and tipping, read money in Morocco.

Picking your dates

Puerto Rico stays on Atlantic Standard Time all year, so Morocco is simply 5 hours ahead. During Ramadan, Morocco moves its clocks back to UTC+0 and the gap shrinks to 4 hours. Ramadan 2027 is expected around 8/9 February to 9/10 March, depending on the moon. Daily life slows down a little, but tours run as usual.

  • March to May: our favorite season. Holy Week 2027 (21–28 March) falls right after Ramadan.
  • June to August: very hot inland. Mix the Atlantic coast with a single desert night.
  • Thanksgiving week: mild days, fewer crowds and a perfect fit for a 7-day itinerary.
  • December to February: crisp, sunny cities and cold desert nights, so pack a real jacket.

Power and packing

Morocco runs on 220 V with type C and E sockets, so your 110 V plugs need an adapter. Most phone and laptop chargers say “100–240 V” and work fine; single-voltage hair tools do not. Pack layers too: even in summer the desert cools down after sunset, and in winter the Atlas passes can be chilly. A light scarf works as sun protection and as a cover-up when visiting the Hassan II Mosque.

Frequently asked questions

Do Puerto Ricans need a visa for Morocco?

No. As US citizens, travelers from Puerto Rico can stay up to 90 days without a visa (as of October 2026). Bring a valid US passport and confirm any changes at acces-maroc.ma or with a Moroccan consulate.

Which airport should I fly into, Casablanca or Marrakech?

From Miami or New York you land in Casablanca, where several of our tours begin. If you connect through Europe, flying into Marrakech is usually more convenient for desert routes.

Almost certainly, as long as it says 100–240 V. You’ll just need a plug adapter for type C or E sockets.

Yes. Our driver-guides speak English, Spanish and French, so you can switch languages within your group whenever you like.
